Spring Wine Dinner
Join Wine by Rx and Il Baretto on
Tuesday, April 29th, 2014 for a wine dinner celebrating Spring.
While
the nights may be cool, the days are warmer and the sunshine is stronger.
Everything seems a little bit brighter. Gorgeous fresh produce is arriving in
the markets and it is time to eat food and drink wine that capture this time of
invigoration and rebirth.
For me, food and wine this time of year serve a dual purpose. The first is to lend a touch of comfort during those chilly nights. The second is to herald the warmer days ahead. Dishes are just a touch lighter but retain bold, rich flavors. The wines I like this time of year do exactly the same.

Brunello di Montalcino Dinner
Wine by Rx and Il Baretto proudly invite you to a special dinner featuring the Brunello di Montalcino of Tenimenti Ricci, on Thursday, January 16th, 2014.
Why Brunello?
Well, it’s that time of year. The temperature is freezing, the evening begins earlier, and holiday lights and cheer brighten our days.
This is red wine weather – serious red wine weather. In terms of elegant, full-bodied red wine that pairs wonderfully with food, Brunello di Montalcino is one of the best, especially this time of year. Tenimenti Ricci is a small, family-owned estate that makes gorgeous, traditionally crafted Brunello di Montalcino . Their wines are meant to be savored and contemplated. More importantly, these wines should be enjoyed with friends while eating hearty winter fare.
We have crafted a unique winter menu to showcase the wines of Tenimenti Ricci. The evening will feature Ricci’s Rosso di Montalcino and multiple vintages of their Brunello di Montalcino normale and riserva bottlings. Guests will have the opportunity to compare different vintages of these wines and in doing so, learn why Brunello di Montalcino is one of the finest, most long-lived red wines.
This Brunello Dinner has something to offer everyone, from seasoned oenophiles who love Brunello, to people who enjoy good food and wine and would like to learn more, or for those looking to get a special gift for the wine lover they know!
Details and menu are below.

I cannot think of a better way to start the Wine by Rx Autumn wine programming than with this fantastic wine dinner.
Why?
A winemaker dinner is really special. Having the opportunity to sit down with people who are so passionate about wine that they dedicate their heart and soul to making it and enjoying a perfectly paired meal is a unique experience. It is one of the reasons I fell in love with wine and why I started Wine by Rx.
When you meet the people intimately involved in the genesis of a great wine, you can begin to understand the concept behind their wine and have a better appreciation for it. Combine this with great conversation and amazing food at one of New York's best restaurants, and you have an experience that will etch the memory of wines you taste on your brain.
Iconic Wine is one of the most exciting new artisinal wineries in California. Iconic makes complex, elegant and focused wines from Chardonnay and Trousseau Gris. Their production is limited and coveted. Their labels have made it on to the wine lists at restaurants such as Blue Hill, Carbone, Kin Shop, Megu, and Tribeca Grill among others in New York City. I am a HUGE fan of Iconic Wine. Birk and Karl are great guys who are, simply put, committed to making GREAT WINE. You can read about them and Iconic's wines on their website.
We felt there was no better way to introduce the Iconic 2012 Heroine Chardonnay wine than by crafting a sublime wine-pairing dinner.
Come and join us. Be the first people in New York to taste the 2012 Heroine. You will also have the opportunity to taste back-vintages of Iconic's other wines as well as red wine from another boutique California producer.
The evening's menu is below.

Chef’s selection of passed hors d’oeuvres
First
Housemade Gemelli Pasta
fava bean pesto, sea urchin butter, radish crème fraiche
Main
Sea Scallop & Pork Belly
Anson Mills grits, charred tomatillo, fermented chili shrimp aioli

A Taste of Spring
"A Taste of Spring" was the second wine tasting event in the tasting series at Indie Food and Wine, a collaboration between Wine by Rx and Denton Events. We poured six wines, each paired with a dish that focused on the vibrant, fresh cuisine that typifies Spring. The wines ranged from Prosecco to a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, to rose from the South of France; we also included a Nebbiolo-based wine and a RIght Bank Bordeaux. The food was fantastic - artisinal cheeses and charcuterie, fresh watermelon with feta and mint, basil pesto, crostini with wild mushroom, and flank steak. My thanks to all those who attended! You can take a look at some of the images from the tasting in the photo gallery below. The Tasting at Indie Food and Wine Thanks to everyone for their interest and making the inaugural Indie Food and Wine Tasting a success. It was a pleasure to welcome all of you to Indie Food and Wine to sample hand-picked wine and food pairings. We look forward to seeing you at another Wine by Rx event soon! |
